J-Shed opens in January

A new cultural space set to take on live music, arts and showcase local talent will open at Fremantle’s Bathers Beach in January under the name J-Shed.

The warehouse project will host a series of beachside concerts from local and touring acts, outdoor BBQs, DJs and incorporate local arts and food, with Kate Miller-Heidke confirmed to perform there in March and others to be confirmed soon.

The new venue comes from Sunset Events, the team behind popular WA events Southbound, the newly rebranded Freo’s Blues Roots & Beyond and more, and spokesman Dave Chitty said the initial series would focus on Fremantle's culturally rich music and food scenes.

“Live music is our passion, we are Fremantle based and committed to the local community and we saw the opportunity to activate and revitalise an under-utilised area through the development of an innovative venue for Fremantle and the broader WA community,” he said.

“The initial activation of the site over the coming summer months will bring together artists and musicians with fantastic food and hospitality in a family friendly environment.”

The warehouse is glass fronted and overlooks the picturesque Bathers Beach precinct with the first series running until Autumn.
