The show will be called 'Ronny Chieng: International Student'

Recently picked up by The Daily Show as a correspondent, Malaysian-born Aussie comedian Ronny Chieng will be taking a short hiatus from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah to film a pilot for a sitcom based on his life.

As The Age reports, Chieng will take a break from his role as correspondent, ie. filling the huge shoes left by the likes of Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert and Ed Helms, to film Ronny Chieng: International Student, which is scheduled to air on ABC next year.

The show will follow Chieng as he struggles to fit into university, while studying to be the "hugely successful lawyer" his mother wants him to be.

Chieng will be filming in Melbourne next week and put out a call for volunteers to play students in the show.
