The Ten Tenors Beat You Am I To #1 On Australian Independent Music Charts

Venerated vocal ensemble The Ten Tenors have pulled off a stunning upset on this week's Carlton Dry Independent Music Charts, with their new full-length Our Christmas Wish storming to #1 on debut, pipping at the post Aussie idols You Am I, whose 10th album Porridge & Hotsauce picks up a still-noteworthy #2.

The pair of acts are jointly a cut above the week's next-highest new entry, which comes from Sons Of The East in the form of new LP Already Gone, which makes its debut at #7, while Darren Middleton rounds out the week's new faces with Splinters settling in at #14.

Sia's 1000 Forms Of Fear and The Waifs' Beautiful You both stay steady at #3 and #4 respectively, while last week's gold medallist, Russell Morris' Red Dirt Red Heart, eases back to #5. (The resultant shuffle knocks Courtney Barnett's acclaimed Sometimes I Sit & Think, & Sometimes I Just Sit out of the top five for the first time in its 34-week stint on the charts, settling in just ahead of Sons Of The East's new effort, at #6.)

While plateauing on the Albums chart, the platinum-haired songstress is a regular constant and new face in the Singles stakes, this week re-upping her presence on that ladder to five as new single Bird Set Free steps out at #4, one spot below previous single Alive (#3) but well ahead of Sia's other incumbent entries, Elastic Heart (#9), Chandelier (#10) and Big Girls Cry (#20).

Though the week's top-single-debut honours go to Sia, there's still a crop of faces making strong entries down the list, starting with Brittney Lee Saunders and Set Fire To The Stars (#7) and extending to Sheppard (Be More Barrio, #13), by way of Emma Louise (Underflow, #11). Down at the pointy end, little has changed as the rankings remain all about the superstar team-up of Chet Faker & Marcus Marr, whose The Trouble With Us retains its #1 position for a second week following its debut there seven days ago, while Vance Joy's Fire & The Flood steps up to #2, swapping places with the aforementioned Alive to comprise this week's top three.
