New record created
Australian pop legend Olivia Newton-John has topped the influential Dance Club Chart in the US this week.
Despite being a long-term dabbler in club tunes, it is 67 year-old Newton-John’s first time at number one is this chart, and she has achieved the placing with You Have To Believe.
Helmed by LA producer/DJ Dave Aude (no stranger at all to the club charts since founding the Moonshine label back in the ’90s), the track is a collaboration with Newton-John and her daughter Chloe Lattanzi.
The song itself is built around the reworked chorus of Newton-John’s 1980 mainstream number one Magic (from the Xanadu soundtrack).

It tops the chart just two weeks after fellow Aussies Kylie Minogue and Nervo sat at number one in the club listings with their collab The Other Boys.
Newton-John and Lattanzi become the first mother/daughter duet to top the chart. And also become the second only mother/daughter duet to top any of the US Billboard charts - the other being The Judds who have topped the country charts.
Newton-John released a statement exclaiming, “It’s fun to have another number one at this point in my career.”
The performer has already topped both the Albums and Music DVD charts in Australia this year with the Two Strong Hearts sets recorded live with John Farnham.
Elsewhere two local tracks are picking up heat in the US Emerging Artists chart published by Billboard - it measures tracks being shared on social media by artists that have not charted top 50. This week saw Chet Faker & Marcus Marr’s The Trouble With Us reach as high as #15 while Future Classic labelmate Hayden James’ Something About You peaked at #3.
