Killing Heidi co-founder and once-proud owner of fire-engine-red dreadlocks Jesse Hooper has been nominated as a representative Writer Director on this year's APRA board, it has been announced.

The veteran, multi-ARIA-winning musician — who has since continued his performing career with post-Heidi pursuit The Verses, again founded with sister Ella — is no stranger to APRA, having taken out its 2001 Songwriter Of The Year Award along with his sibling, as well as writing eight top-20 singles (including #1 Mascara) and releasing lauded debut album Reflector in 2000, which took home four ARIA Awards that year.

Speaking of his nomination in a statement, Hooper said that he would bring a considerable degree of knowledge and experience to a role with the APRA board, informed by broad pursuits such as his work with Multicultural Arts Victoria and Collingwood's Artful Dodgers Studios over the past five years, as well as the recent taking up of a position at Melburnian music college Collarts.

"In my professional work, I have experienced great writing and performing support thanks to APRA and their wonderful staff over the years," Hooper said.

"As an artist who emerged from a regional area, I understand the importance of advocating for writers and performers at all levels of the industry. APRA pays a vital role in supporting the domestic talent we have here in Australia and in taking our music to the world.

"I am confident that I can draw upon my professional songwriting, performing, community arts practice and my education roles to help bring a unique perspective to the APRA board," he continued.
