The 24-year-old graduate has inadvertently found himself sitting on a goldmine

More Kanye West More Kanye West

Kanye West's seemingly snap decision to announce plans to run for President of the United States in 2020 at this year's MTV VMAs already has much to recommend it but it's already looking to make real change for at least one American citizen who registered the domain name KanyeForPresident.com five months ago.

As The Daily Mail reports (via TMZ), a 24-year-old university graduate named Tramall Ferguson bought the domain back in April "on a whim … thinking maybe one day Yeezy would make it in the Oval Office". Little did he know that, following West's VMAs speech, he would be facing several offers for the URL, with TMZ reporting that he has been offered more than $US80,000 (about $113,700) already.

"It was totally random," Ferguson told MSNBC of his snap decision to purchase the domain name. "I bought that one and one other, PeterGriffinForPresident.com."

The news that he was sitting on a potential goldmine came as an extra surprise to Ferguson, as he did not actually see West's speech at the VMAs, instead only being alerted later via social media - and, even then, "it still didn't hit me that I had that domain".

There's no doubting that it's hit him now, however, with several offers already coming in at the upper-five-figure range - but Ferguson's not ready to move on any of them yet, preferring instead to wait until he's touched base with Camp Yeezy first.

"I have no idea [what offer would be acceptable]. When a number strikes my eyes and intrigues me, then I'll go with it," Ferguson said. "But I really would like to talk to Kanye."

It just goes to show, if you've ever thought that your favourite musician might make a decent parliamentarian, maybe you should take the chance and get prepared with some pre-emptive campaign-ready domain names, so you, too, can prove yourself a savvy forward thinker - or just incredibly lucky.
