NWA biopic takes #1 spot yet again.
For the second week running NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton has again topped the US box office to continue its impressive run, as it came out ahead of a number of newly released films.
As Variety reports, the biographical drama dominated this week's box office, bringing in $26.8 million dollars to generate an overall estimated total of $111.5 million — a figure far beyond most expectations.
In what is now one of the years biggest films, Straight Outta Compton has broken a number of records which includes the fifth highest August opening of all time, as well as the highest opening for an R-rated film in the same month.
Ticket sales continue to boom in the wake of some rather ugly incidents becoming public upon the film's release, specifically in how it deals with, or rather doesn't deal with, the 1991 assault of journalist Dee Barnes, though the movie has received critical acclaim from critics and fans.
