Dead Letter Circus — Aesthesis (UNFD)

Dead Letter Circus have managed to toe the line between a record that "holds their integral sound" and one that "bridges into mass popular appeal", scoring four stars and our Album Of The Week this week. With tracks like Silence holding an important, albeit devastating, message about sexual abuse, Aesthesis sees "sees the band's use of heavy dynamic shifting paired up with tracks bolstered with uplifting pop melodies and brash guitar riffs".

Jess Ribeiro — Kill It Yourself (Barely Dressed/Remote Control)

Four words came to mind for our reviewer — soulful, ominous, edgy and ethereal. Highlights from Kill It Yourself include the title track for its "desolate lyrics" contrasted with "angelic vocals", Rivers On Fire, and Hurry Back To Love as "Ribeiro's vocal dynamic shifts so dramatically". Citing that the album is "an enlightening storytelling experience you'll want to cherish forever", we gave the album four stars.

Bullet For My Valentine — Venom (Sony)

Scoring three-and-a-half stars, Bullet have "produced their most aggressive and complex studio album", with rapid drumming, intense guitar riffs and Matt Tucks' "complex, aggressive lyrics". You Want A Battle? (Here's A War) and Pariah are both impressive, with "powerful lyrics" and "an overpowering energy", however it "feels like Bullet has taken a step back rather than forward, revisiting the built-up pain from their beginnings instead of thinking about the future."
