“Having a beard makes you better at absolutely everything, including and especially football.”

More The Beards More The Beards

The Adelaide leg of the Reclink Community Cup is set to go down this Sunday, and the event has been given a furry make-over with the addition of live music from local legends The Beards.

The SA natives have been confirmed to perform during the opening ceremony at Coopers Stadium to get punters and players in the mood.

But, if you don’t have a beard, don’t expect to be mingling with the musical entertainment.

“I make a habit of not talking to beardless people under any circumstances,” The Beards guitarist Facey McStubblington told theMusic.com.au.

The opinionated musician also raised some good points about beards in sport.

“It keeps you warm in the winter months, so that's a huge plus. But probably the biggest advantage would be that having a beard makes you better at absolutely everything, including and especially football. If only someone had told Stephen Dank that five years ago.”

While he wouldn’t reveal which team he’ll be backing this Sunday, McStubblington did give us the lowdown on his favourite bearded footballer.

“Adam Goodes: because of his beard's density. He has achieved every accolade possible in the AFL, as well as being named Australian of the Year, and it's clear to me that this is all because of his tremendously thick beard.”

The Adelaide Reclink Community Cup will see some of the state’s finest musicians and media personnel go head-to-head in an event that no doubt be one to remember.

Entry is only a gold coin donation, the proceeds of which go to Reclink, who support people encountering disadvantage through engagement with sport and music programs.

The event kicks off from 12pm this Sunday, 16 August, at Coopers Stadium, Norwood.
