Organisers are pulling out all the stops for the event's 19th annual Australia Day weekend party
Victoria's yearly Rainbow Serpent electronic-music festival is returning in 2016 for its 19th go-around, and organisers are ensuring that age shall not weary them by announcing that, when all is said and done, more than 200 Australian and international musicians will perform across the event's five stages.
With the festival wasting no time in showing off some impressive sonic weapons in its arsenal, the way is being led by British DJing luminary John Digweed, one-time DJ Magazine #1 DJ in the world, capably backed by a cabal of acts that includes Argentine muso Hernan Cattaneo, British acts Dickster and JFB, German luminaries Oliver Schories, Monkey Safari and Pachanga Boys, and a Swedish sector being represented by Logic Bomb, Critical Choice and more.
In addition to the swiftly growing roster for this year's festivities, festival director Tim Harvey is promising what he believes to be a first for an Australian music festival: motherflipping holograms, as part of the festival's Iboga Records showcase, featuring Ace Ventura, MVMP, Emok, Atmos and Ticon, among others.

"Rainbow is known for spectacular light and laser shows and we are taking it up another notch this year [by having] holographic projections during the Iboga celebration," Harvey said in a statement. "As far as we know, that's a first for any Australian music festival."
Rainbow Serpent 2016 will be held from 22-25 January in Lexton, Victoria. Further line-up details, including the festival's first round of Australian artists, will be announced over the next few months, but tickets and car passes are already available via the event's website, so you'd be well advised to move quickly before the opportunity passes you by.
