Claiming $7.3 million from Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams for plagiarising Marvin Gaye's 1977 song Got To Give It Up in Blurred Lines (and reportedly a second song too) apparently wasn't enough for Gaye's family — Marvin Gaye III, Gaye's son, is reportedly suing the creators of the Fox TV show, Empire, claiming he had the idea for a similar series years ago.

As NME and TMZ report, Gaye claims to have registered a treatment for a show called Diamonds & Ballads to the Writers Guild of America in 2010, and alleges that Empire's co-creator Lee Daniels had connections to associates that had been pitched the idea for the show.

He's now seeking to take Daniels, Fox and others to court, though there's been no official statement from the Gaye camp as yet.

Back in March, a jury found Thicke and Williams had lifted parts of the late Gaye's song in the creation of Blurred Lines, with the family (Gaye's children, Nona, Frankie and Marvin Gaye III) rejecting a six-figure settlement and instead pushing for well into the seven-figures, which they eventually won. Even after the settlement, the family sought to bring rapper T.I. into the equation as the third credited writer of Blurred Lines, seeking accountability for his contribution to the song.
