Swerve Society will be a free, three-band party every Monday in the newly refurbished venue

It's a bit of an exciting time for Newtown Social Club at the moment. Not only are their extensive renovations pretty much in the bag, but they recently celebrated the first anniversary of their bandroom with a cracking party-slash-gig, and now they're set to keep the vibes flowing with new weekly Monday-night music night Swerve Society.

The series was launched a couple of weeks ago with sets from Lovely Head, Teenage Mustache and Point Being, but will return renewed this coming Monday, 3 August, under the banner of "Mad Monday Swerve Society", in honour of post-Community Cup celebrations, and will boast free entry, specials on dinner and jugs o'booze, plus a live performance from Charles Buddy Daaboul and DJ sets from Sky DreamsJeff O'Connell and Cameron Menegoni (FBi) vs Jarrod Ryan (2SER).

Consequent Swerve Society Monday-night events will also be free, feature three bands apiece, $10 parmas after 6pm and $15 jugs of Young Henrys, so, y'know. Hook in, Sydney.

The arrival of Swerve Society also comes at a time of significant change for the Newtown Social, with their total overhaul of the ground floor ushering in new-look dining and drinking spaces boasting booths, planter seats, a retro vibe and intrinsic cosiness that encourages a dedicated sampling of their similarly totally reimagined drinks and food menus.

"We hope that this latest update to our historic venue will really put the heart back into the venue and remind people that this is a great place to drink, eat and socialise every day of the week, not just somewhere to drop in for a quick beer before a gig," venue manager Chris Aitkin said in a statement. "With our delicious new food and drink menus, we aim to turn Ground Floor at Newtown Social Club into one of the area's hottest drinking and dining destinations."

And, of course, there's always the band room; doors for Mad Monday Swerve Society open at 7.30pm. For more information on the next or future events, see the Newtown Social Club's website.
