Nine '90s Pop Acts We Want To See Tour Australia

It's time they came back.

So far in 2015 a massive number of popular '90s music artists have either played shows around Australia or have plans to tour sometime this year.

Artists such as ShaggyToni BraxtonBoyz II Men, Bone Thugs N HarmonyGinuwine and if we're being a tad lenient on the time frame, Craig DavidJa Rule and Ashanti will have all performed in the country by years end.

Here are nine other '90s acts we want to see make the trip Down Under:

bomfunk mc's

The Finnish pop breaks outfit shot to fame with their 1999 smash hit song Freestyler. Not only was the track a hit in their home country, but the dance track topped music charts in over ten countries and has since featured in countless films and TV advertisements. A few follow-up songs like Uprocking Beats and B-Boys And Flygirls also did well for the group but sadly they could not garner the same success. While it is uncertain if they have definitely broken up, Bomfunk MC's have been inactive since 2005. But hey, if the Freestyler music video didn't inspire you to dance awkwardly in a train station, then YOU'RE the weird one.

This is probably an obvious one, but let's be honest, Backstreet Boys toured earlier this year so the old rivalry should be brought back — don't even talk to us about One Direction. After a successful seven years together the Florida-founded boy group split following Justin Timberlake's eventual success as a solo artist. A one-off show they performed together in 2013 at the MTV Video Music Awards proved the gang have still got it though.

steps

Remember these guys? The British group's biggest song was their 1997 debut single 5, 6, 7, 8 which made line-dancing seem more uncomfortable than ever. After splitting in 2001, Steps got back together in 2011, the band released new material and followed it up with an arena tour, only to go on hiatus again in 2013 to pursue solo careers. Looks like they've taken steps back here. We're sorry for that.

lou bega

Best known for his 1999 track Mambo No 5, the German musician (yes, German) is still active today. He has not only been a master of ceremonies at a number of events such as the Grammys and the American Music Awards, his most recent album A Little Bit Of '80s was released in 2013.

sixpence none the richer

This US pop/rock duo got their name on the map with their chart-topping track, Kiss Me — thank you very much Dawson's Creek. The song, released in 1997 was not only used on the successful TV show, but also a number of feature films. The group later broke up in 2004 only to reunite in 2007 and their last album, Lost In Transition was released in 2012. (While we're at it — where's a Dawson's Creek reunion movie?)

los del rio

There's really no other reason you should know about this Spanish duo other than for the fact that these are the guys who released Macarena. The Bayside Boys remix spent a whopping 14 weeks in the #1 spot on the US Billboard Charts, one of the longest runs of all time and who wouldn't want to see this performed live?

baha men

Do the words Who Let The Dogs Out ring a bell? Of course they do. Not many know that this world band from the Bahamas were a group in the '70s known as High Voltage before changing the name and it wasn't until their remake of the song, originally written by Anslem Douglas, that they received international attention. Fans will be happy to know these guys are still together and released their latest track Night & Day last year. And thanks to these guys for opening up a whole bunch of awful Dad jokes any time our parents spot a dog walking on the sidewalk.

spice girls

This one has been in the pipeline for many years now, but it looks like Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham, just won't budge. Arguably the biggest ever girl pop group of the '90s, it didn't take Spice Girls long to shoot to fame in their home country of England and eventually, the world. Three albums, a film, a TV series, a number of videos games and their own perfume line later, the group called it quits for good in 2000 after struggling to stay together following the departure of Geri Halliwell in 1998. Fans got overly excited in when the girl power-clan reunited in December 2007 to announce a world tour, however after just a few shows throughout Canada and the US, they cancelled the tour in February the next year with the band citing personal reasons behind calling a halt to the shows. Besides a one-off performance at the 2012 London Olympics, all has been quiet in The Spice Girls camp. But as there always is, there is talk of a potential reunion for the group and only time will tell.

will smith

Yes, it's a tough ask. But it's no secret that the Hollywood star has been working on new material with the latest reports suggesting he is making music with rapper Drake. Just last year Smith teamed up with former collaborator Jazzy Jeff for a special performance in Las Vegas. After releasing four studio albums between 1997 and 2005, he diverted all of his attention to his obviously very successful film career. And while his next big film, Suicide Squad looks freakin' amazing (Jared Leto, anyone?) we can't help but think seeing the Fresh Prince back on stage in front of a live audience wouldn't just be the coolest thing ever.
