You Might Start Seeing Music Videos On Facebook From Major Record Labels

See those 'Suggested Videos' on your iPhone app?

Facebook is reportedly in talks with major record labels in an effort to host native music videos on Facebook users' newsfeeds, as Billboard reports.

An industry source has confirmed that the mammoth social media website will be hosting a test run this year with select music videos, chosen by these major labels, offered in the main newsfeed of Facebook users. There's no word on whether they will be interspersed among Facebook posts or on a separate section of the main new feed.

The change would allow Facebook to navigate ad revenue away from Google (and thus YouTube) and into Facebook's native video player, which is why Facebook is making haste with licensing deals with major record labels so the pilot can kick off as soon as possible.

As Variety reports, you may have noticed the "suggested videos" feature when videos appear on your newsfeed within the Facebook iPhone app — this is likely to be a test on a small scale for the larger pilot later this year.

Facebook would divvy up ad revenue similar to YouTube — 45 percent to Facebook, 55 percent to rights holders.
