Sony Music Appoints Former Onelove Exec As New Electronic Music Director

Ryan Wilson comes to the company with more than 15 years' experience behind him

Ryan Wilson, the former national and international marketing & promotions manager for venerated electro label onelove, has joined Sony Music Australia's new director of electronic music, the company has announced.

Wilson brings with him to the role more than 15 years' experience in the industry, during which time he has also healthily dipped his toes in the waters of A&R, community radio (he spent six years as the music director for Adelaide-based youth broadcaster Fresh 92.7), and performance itself, having garnered a reputation for himself as an established producer and DJ, and a three-time winner (consecutively, no less) of the title of South Australian DJ Of The Year — you might know him as Reelax.

The new recruit steps into the role in the wake of the departure of previous electronic music director Jon Hanlon, who, according to a statement, has left Sony "to concentrate on his business interests", with his former employer offering their best wishes for his future pursuits.

In his stead, Wilson will assume responsibility for keeping a keen eye on the movers and shakers in the electronic world — both in terms of artists and individual tracks — in order to sign them up for recording and broader rights arrangements with Sony. In addition, he'll take on marketing duties for any such artists in Australia and Asia, reporting directly to the company's chairman and chief executive, Dennis Handlin AM, and will be a close ally of the Sony Music marketing and A&R teams.

If you want to get more of an idea about the man behind the mythos, Wilson actually produces and hosts his own radio show, Release, which — at 754 episodes, at the time of writing — stands as the nation's longest-running electronic dance music radio show. You can find out more at his website.
