The acclaimed funnyman will perform four gigs Down Under this October
Veteran British stand-up John Bishop has named a string of performance dates in Australia this October in what will be his first-ever comedy tour of the country, in part owing to his scheduled appearance at Sydney's impending Just For Laughs festival.
The comedian has been doing the rounds for more than a decade, having got his start back in 2000 and immediately embarking on a sharply upward trajectory that landed him in front of sell-out crowds all across his home country, with his debut DVD breaking sales-speed records in the UK to boot. It's been more of the same ever since, with the man knocking down national and international tours, penning a successful autobiography (How Did This All Happen?) and even making it to the small screen on more than one occasion.
Although the impending sojourn will be Bishop's first comedy tour of Australia, it's not his first visit — he previously visited the country last year to create John Bishop's Australia, a three-part series recreating a coast-spanning ride, from Sydney to far north Queensland, he undertook way back in 1992. With a little time for some exploration, of course.
Bishop kicks off his antipodean run of shows in Brisbane, where he'll perform at The Tivoli on Tuesday, 20 October, before heading down to the Sydney Opera House for Just For Laughs on 21 October. From there, he hits the Athenaeum Theatre, in Melbourne, on 22 October, and jets across to Perth to wrap up the journey at the Astor Theatre on Sunday, 25 October.
