The rising Future Classic star nabs the week's highest new entry spot in the process

Upwardly mobile Perth-bred musician Ta-Ku has claimed the highest new entry on this week's Carlton Dry Independent Music Charts with his new album Songs To Make Up To, stepping out in strong fashion in the #3 spot.

The debut displaces long-time upper-echelon dweller Sia, whose 1000 Forms Of Fear slips a spot to #4 in accommodating Ta-Ku's entry, though top-two placeholders Seth Sentry and Hermitude — who sit at #1 and #2 respectively with Strange New Past and Dark Night, Sweet Light — are unshakeable for another week.

The full-length ladder this week sees its additional debuts all coming in throughout the top 10, with Ocean Grove's Black Label netting the next-highest position on entry, at #6, and Saskwatch (Sorry I Let It Come Between Us, #7) and Luna Grand (Patience Love, #9) not far behind.

Interestingly, West Australian indie kids San Cisco see sophomore effort Gracetown drop three places to round out the top 10 this week, while veteran punks Cosmic Psychos rise the same number of spots to just miss out on the top half — their recent full-length Cum The Raw Prawn rests at #11. Also down are Courtney Barnett (only by one place; Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit slips to #5 this week) and Flight Facilities, knocked off by the newcomers to drop to #8.

On the Singles chart, where Hermitude take pole position for another week with The Buzz, featuring Mataya and Young Tapz, there's nary a debutante to be seen. In fact, it's a more steady period in general — the whole top five remains unchanged, with three of those places going to Sia (Big Girls Cry, #2; Elastic Heart, #4; Chandelier, #5).

However, despite the lack of new entries, we do see the return of some old favourites to the top 20 — Ta-Ku makes his way back at #10 with Love Again, while Japanese Wallpaper's Forces, featuring Airling, has returned with aplomb at #11. Additionally — and kind of poetically — both Chet Faker and Flume have work returning to the charts (Gold at #17 for the former, Holdin On at #18 for the latter), right underneath joint release Drop The Game (#16), which passes its 76th week on the charts this week.
