Shield your eyes.

The first official trailer for Paranormal Activity 5: The Ghost Dimension has just dropped and it's everything you'd expect from the supernatural horror franchise; it's creepy, it's eerie and the camera work is horrendous.

It's been announced that the latest film will be the final of the series, with the tagline 'the beginning of the end', and nothing celebrates a finale like adding 3D in the mix.

We're promised that all questions from the previous four films will be answered, but we are given very little to work with in the new clip apart from a few jump-out-of-your-seat moments and the inkling that Paranormal Activity probably should have finished at least three movies ago.

The trailer does tell us that the the film will focus on a brand new family but what it doesn't show that the original film's actress Katie Featherson will feature. (You know, the one that was possessed in the end of the first movie?)

The original, released in 2007 was a massive sleeper hit — with a budget of just US$15,000, the film went on to gross nearly $200 million at the box office in its cinema run.

While the new flick does look like it will be going out with a bang, what with the demon spirits and the trailer ending with a sequence that looks like it has been taken straight out of Poltergeist, we can only hope it did what the previous films could not - live up to the original.

Paranormal Activity 5 is due for release in Aussie cinemas on October 22.
