Voice actor for long-running hit series The Simpsons, Nancy Cartwright has revealed she is working on her own animated show.

In an interview with theMusic.com.au's Daniel Cribb, Cartwright - who you probably know as the voice of Bart Simpson, Ralph Wiggum, and wealth of other Springfield characters - revealed she has been developing an animated comedy series called Unassisted Living.

“We’re in development and pitching, but it is fully fleshed out and ready to go,” Cartwright revealed.

“It takes place in a retirement facility and everybody thinks they’re dying and somebody comes in to run the place that is only 22 years old and she gets them all working and contributing.

“It’s kind of crazy because they’re really old and forgetful and feel like they don’t have any life left in them, so she injects life and spirit into these people, and at the same time they bring her their experiences and help her, because she’s young and hasn’t had life experiences yet.”

With The Simpsons being renewed for seasons 27 and 28 over the next two years, Cartwright has her work cut out for her.

While reluctant to comment on the recent departure of fellow voice actor Harry Shearer, she did mention negotiations for the new seasons were difficult.

“I don’t really have all the details on it, you’ve got to interview Maggie Simpson, and I don’t think she’s talkin’. The show’s going to go on. It’s unfortunately, but I don’t know that he’s really gone.

“The pick of seasons 27 and 28 is great news. Doing negotiations is always a challenge; it’s not fun for anybody, to be hones with you. It’s a lot of pressure, but the outcome of it, I’m very happy to be back and I’m glad it worked out for two years guaranteed.

Cartwright is also in the process of making her 1995 one-woman stage show, In Search of Fellini, into a film for release next year.
