The annual charity Aussie Rules clash has named its first expansion destination

Following April's announcement that the annual Reclink Community Cup would be expanding beyond its home town of Melbourne and offshoot locale Sydney for this year's event, organisers have confirmed that the first fresh destination in 2015 will be the South Australian capital of Adelaide.

The first SA Community Cup will be held at Adelaide Airport Stadium on Sunday, 16 August, and will — as with its sister events — see members of the music media come together to face off against those who actually have talent in their bones for a friendly competition to raise money for naming sponsor Reclink, which gives much-needed assistance to disadvantaged segments of the community through sport and music programs.

"We wanted to bring this event to Adelaide because it's a great day for a great cause," Adelaide Community Cup organiser Koral Chandler said in a statement.

"Plus, we wanted to see how many musos and media types were handy with a Sherrin and get some friendly competition going between these important Adelaide communities."

It's a sentiment echoed by MusicSA general manager Lisa Bishop, who said of the game: "Events like the Community Cup really demonstrate how important music is to South Australia."

"Bringing together community radio personalities and other media with musicians creates a great atmosphere and builds camaraderie to create strong community ties," she said.

As with Melbourne and Sydney — which will welcome their 21st and fourth Community Cups this year respectively — Adelaide's event will be entirely run by a crew of volunteers, with support coming from local community radio stations Three D Radio, Radio Adelaide and Fresh927. Alongside the centrepiece match, there will be food, live music and other entertainment on offer, with Reclink Australia chief executive John Ballis crediting the local team with bringing the event to life.

"The Adelaide Reclink Cup Organising Committee well deserve Reclink Australia's sincere appreciation for bringing to the table their collective talents, skills, commitment and determination to make this inaugural Adelaide event a success," he said in a statement.

The 2015 Reclink Community Cup will further extend its reach this year, with plans in place for another new event to be held this year, in Perth. Players and bands for Adelaide's event will be announced in the near future.

For more information about any of this year's Community Cup events, see the relevant websites (Melbourne // Sydney) or get in touch with Chandler or fellow organiser Farrin Foster if you'd like to get involved in Adelaide — the SA event is in need of sponsors, donors, players, volunteers, referees, coaches and so forth.
