Marina Abramović: Private Archaeology

Performance artist Abramović will actually be in town for Dark Mofo, in Hobart on 13 Jun for the grand opening of the exhibition of her work that runs until October, and then sitting down with David Walsh at Odeon Theatre for a chat the next day. Up in Sydney she’ll be delivering a keynote on 30 Jun as part of Marina Abramović: In Residence, 24 Jun – 5 Jul, Pier 2/3.
Orlando
The Rabble’s adaption of Virginia Woolf’s gender-bending 1928 novel Orlando runs 12 to 14 Jun at Theatre Royal, following a successful season at Melbourne Festival 2012.

Anthony McCall
His incredible light work, Solid Light Works and Landscape On Fire, pictured, will be at Dark Park, Macquarie Point for the entirety of the festival. Night Ship, an actual ship, from which a searchlight beams, will be visible from Hobart Waterfront.

Winter Feast
A different A-list guest chef will be preparing a feast for punters every night at Princes Wharf, 17 – 21 Jun. This year, the chefs are Jake Kellie (Estelle; formerly Aria and Fat Duck, London) Martin Boetz (Cooks Co-Op; formerly Longrain), Sean Moran (Sean’s Panorama), Mike McEnearney (Kitchen By Mike; formerly Rockpool Sydney and Pied à Terre, London), and O Tama Carey (formerly Berta Sydney). On top of that, there will be 64 stalls spruiking delicious cuisine from all over the globe – from meals and snacks to cheese and sweets – plus all kinds of alcohol.

RBMA presents EYE: CIRCOM
Line-up goes a little something like this: EYE, with help from My Disco, Jake Blood and Kusum Normoyle. The Japanese muso who you might recognise from Boredoms an Australian exclusive, 19 Jun, Odeon Theatre.
Dark Mofo films
Dark Mofo films at State Cinema starts early: 10 Jun to be precise, and runs until 21 Jun, and features ten films: highlights includes Valhalla Rising by Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn; Severed Ways: The Norse Discovery Of America, a story about Vikings set to a heavy metal soundtrack; A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Reflecting On Existence, fresh from Sydney Film Festival; and the “cult hit” Partisan, pictured.

The Witches
Guy Edmonds performs in David Wood’s version of Roald Dahl’s classic The Witches, 17 – 20 Jun, Peacock Theatre. Directed by Lucas Jervies, the Griffin Theatre Company one-man play has successfully played Barking Gecko Theatre Company in Perth, Malthouse in Melbourne and more. One man boy versus all those witches…

Wild At Heart
Wild At Heart, 15 – 17 Jun, curated by Unconscious Collective, and featuring an exhibition from Ash Keating (Ash Keating, Remote Nature Response, pictured), will literally take you out of the city up to Cradle Mountain, for a sleepover in Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Better bring a jumper. Includes a banquet from culinary artists Bompas & Parr.
Antony & The Johnsons & The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra
New York’s Antony & The Johnson’s play their only Australian shows accompanied by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, 16 & 17 Jun, Odeon Theatre. Too bad it’s sold out already.

Nude Solstice Swim
And lastly, if you survived Wild At Heart, there’s the Nude Solstice Swim to cap it all off: hard nips at Long Beach first thing in the morning on 22 Jun. Brrr.
