St Kilda venue adds regular live music

Earlier this year St Kilda venue Cellar Bar announced a shift to regular live music performances and it has taken a step in the right direction with this months appointment of new music booking manager, Jeremy Jankie.

Speaking to theMusic, Jankie concedes that while the north areas of Melbourne are rich with live music venues, he wants to revive the once strong south area also where the Cellar Bar is based.

"I think Melbourne has enough population to do both [north and south]" he chuckles.

"There’s some great venues north, but I grew up south and south used to have some really great venues."

He says the key is garnering the communities interest in the music scene by impressing their customers with the revamped Cellar Bar itself.

"Its about building the music scene in St Kilda and surrounding areas up again to the point where locals start getting a following and people start going out to see the local bands because they’re playing in a venue with awesome hosting and really big names."

On his new appointment, Jankie said that the role wasn't something he considered until he stepped inside the venue for the first time.

"It wasn’t something I actually thought about doing until completely by random chance someone said: “Hey, you should come and check this place out.” he recalls.

"I walked in there and said: “Yep. When can I start?" It’s literally one of those rooms you walk in and you wanna see gigs in."
