Music company pulls out of deal with streaming service
A breakdown in negotiations has seen Sony Music remove original recordings from the official SoundCloud pages of several artists including Hozier, Adele, Miguel, Kelly Clarkson, Passion Pit and 2015 Splendour In The Grass act, MS MR.
Billboard have reported that the music company declined to comment on the matter, but an executive familiar with the negotiations cited a "lack of monetization opportunities" as the reason behind the move.
Communications between Sony and SoundCloud have been hinted to be tense, with the streaming service being completely free to its 350 million users until recently.
While Sony may not be experiencing financial gain from SoundCloud, it has proved to be a useful platform to launch new music from artists in the past, including Beyonce and the recently removed work of Miguel.

A spokesperson for SoundCloud said of the recent negotiations: "We are in ongoing conversations with major and independent labels and will continue to add partners to the program."
"We’ve always put control in the hands of creators, and anyone who makes music and audio can decide when and how they want to share it with fans, allowing artists to essentially broadcast out to the world the availability of new content."
