The festival tour could be the end of the road for the illustrious heavy metal pioneers
British heavy metal icons Black Sabbath appear to be eyeing off a conclusion to their long and storied career, with a new announcement for this year's Ozzfest event in Japan, direct from Sharon Osbourne, indicating that this year's shindig will be the time the band embrace their inevitable use-by, even going so far as to straight-up brand the appearance as their "farewell".
"Ozzfest will be back in Japan on November 21st and 22nd, and this will be Black Sabbath's farewell," Osbourne says in the video, in which she also reveals fellow headliners Korn, who celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band this year. Take a look below.
We know, we know - we hear ageing musicians offer up the old "farewell" line all the time, and yet it's somewhat easy to believe that the core trio of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler could have actually come to the conclusion that they have little, if anything, left to achieve by gilding the lily. After all, as Butler himself indicated to The Music during their last visit, it's not like sex, drugs and heavy metal have ever been in short supply since at least their fourth album, so it's conceivable that the band could be looking to embark on some sort of goodbye journey on the way to or after Ozzfest.
