Event has been aiming for Johns for a while says programmer Ben Marshall

This week saw the unveiling of the Vivid Sydney program, with a number of names announced for one of its major spectacles, Vivid LIVE, including former Silverchair leader Daniel Johns.

Johns, who will be playing his first official shows as a solo artist, along with the already announced Morrissey, Detroit singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens and more are “giant” and “massive” for this year’s event event, according to Vivid LIVE Programmer Ben Marshall.

“Morrissey was a massive coup for us, Sufjan Stevens is a massive figure, Daniel Johns is just a giant of Australian music,” Marshall told theMusic.com.au at this week’s event launch.

“He’s [Johns] been threatening to appear for years now so when that finally happened we were absolutely running around the room.

“Bill Callahan is a huge personal favourite of mine, TV On The Radio - I’ve wanted to work with for 13 years.”

Marshall also discussed the importance of having the Future Classic tenth anniversary line-up at this year’s event, which will feature performances from Flume, Flight Facilities and more of the label’s best artists.

“The Future Classic story is something I feel passionate about. Nathan McLay set up Future Classic at about the same time that I set up Inertia’s touring division and we were both working through these jobs and figuring out what we were doing and watching Nathan build an amazing record label with global recognition, especially having Flume and Chet Faker, is something I’m really proud to be able to give them a colossal platform for.”

Other artists set to perform at this year’s event include The Drones, The Preatures and Hoodoo Gurus, who also revealed who their new drummer is to us at the launch.

Morrissey was the first artist revealed for Vivid 2015 last month.
