New app promises to streamline the live-music process for gig-goers and promoters in the Victorian capital

State industry body Music Victoria has joined forces with the team at The Music to develop and release the Melbourne Music City App, a comprehensive and detailed application created to simplify and modernise live music promotion in the city for punters and businesses alike.

The joint venture came about following Music Victoria's efforts at developing a standalone app to promote music in the state capital, swiftly coming to see the strengths and flexibility of the framework utilised in The Music's own app, which launched last year.

"Since deciding to create the app, development has always focused on the ability to provide simple white-label solutions to venues and other music industry organisations," The Music's Managing Director, Craig Treweek, said. "The app was created to promote live music and we hope to push it out through as many like-minded organisations and venues as we can.

"Music Victoria has been proactive in creating their own app to promote Victoria and Melbourne as 'the music city'. In order for the app to be effective and answer to members' needs, they needed to build on our content and make more resources available.

"We were able to enhance their app using our white-label app, content and resources, so the partnership is a perfect one."

Said Music Victoria chief Patrick Donovan: "We are thrilled to partner with theMusic.com.au to enhance our app and give the music community access to the best gig guide in Australia."

The updated Melbourne Music City app maps Melbourne's main metropolitan entertainment hubs, as well as venues in more regional parts of the state.

It includes a Victorian festival calendar and music-event timeline plus full access to The Music's local gig guide - the most comprehensive such listing in the country - and The Music's spread of related artist and industry news and feature articles. Users will also have access to all of Music Victoria's resources, including a record store register, social media feeds and a convenient link to secure Music Victoria membership.

Melbourne Music City is available as an update to Music Victoria's existing platform, or a standalone download for free via the iTunes store. Check out a selection of screenshots below.
