And that's just in the capital cities
National youth broadcaster triple j has cause to celebrate this week after new figures showed that it had broken its own audience record, achieving a new high of more than 2 million listeners a week across the five mainland metropolitan state capitals.
The new achievement comes following a particularly strong start to the year for triple j, which not only saw a spike in voter participation in its annual Hottest 100 competition to see this year's become its largest to date but has also enjoyed a bolstered audience share for new full-time drive announcers Veronica & Lewis.
"Right now, more people than ever listen to triple j — over 2 million per week in the five capital cities," station content director Ollie Wards said in a statement.
"That's on the back of our biggest Hottest 100 ever, with over 2 million votes. Our Beat The Drum concert, celebrating 40 years of triple j, was a major event on the radio and online. Triple j's new drive team, Veronica & Lewis, have had a great start to the year too, increasing their share around the country."

As we saw only a few days ago, Brisbane has overtaken Perth as the country's most rabid triple j fanbase, with the station making a 0.4 percentage-point gain to hold 9.7% of the market in the Queensland capital; Western Australia's contribution is nothing to scoff at despite its 2.1-point loss — triple j still holds sway over a solid 9.2% of Perth's listeners.
Said Wards: "Our core demo is 18-24-year-olds, and everything we do is focused on that audience, so we're stoked they're liking what we do."
