Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee has opened up to The Music about the opening scene for the movie version of The Dirt: Confessions Of The World's Most Notorious Rock Band, revealing that “it has to do with a squirter".

“That’s how the movie starts by the way… I was like, ‘OH MY GOD! This is insane!’” he said.

When Lee was dating the squirter (christened 'Bullwinkle' by his bandmate Vince Neil), they would mess around in the back of his van, which eventually started to reek, so we’re hoping The Dirt movie won’t be released in Smell-o-Vision. At one point, Lee gave his mum a lift to the shops in that van: “Yeah, she was so disgusted with that,” he recalled. “She said, ‘God, it smells weird in here, Tommy, what’s goin’ on?’”

The band’s collaborative autobiography, co-written with Neil Strauss, was originally released in 2002 and Lee confirmed that the band are proud of the way the screenplay’s coming together. “Yeah, it’s insane, like, it’s absolutely insane,” he gushed. “And, you know, if it turns out the way think it’s gonna turn out, it’s gonna be a cult classic.”

Not much has been reported on the progress of this adaptation since Jeff Tremaine, director of the Jackass movies who has been locked in to direct The Dirt, sat on the press conference panel for Mötley Crüe’s The Final Tour announcement at Beacher’s Madhouse in Los Angeles on 29 Jan, 2014. At this press conference, Tremaine divulged that The Dirt script – co-written by xXx writer Rich Wilkes and Californication creator Tom Kapinos – was almost good to go.

However, Lee confirmed during the aforementioned interview with The Music that a first table read has only just taken place.

“Nikki [Sixx, bassist] and I sat through the first table read of the script for the movie The Dirt and I’m telling you it is going to be Out. Of. Control,” he said. “No idea where we’re gonna be able to show it, you know, ‘cause it’s insane! I mean, we sat there and we sat through two hours of, you know, 30 years of just insanity. And watching these actors read the script – just people that were hired to read through it, proper actors… Watching and listening to that go down was just, like, you could see what kind of movie it’s gonna be, and wow!”

Mötley Crüe recently announced they would be including Australia on their final-ever world tour in May this year; head to theGuide or see The Music App for the full rundown.
