Courtney Barnett Announces Debut Album & New Single

30 January 2015 | 8:48 am | Staff Writer

'Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit' will be yours to own this March

More Courtney Barnett More Courtney Barnett

Acclaimed Aussie singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett might have had a year for the books — a headline national tour, publishing deal, label deal, reppin' the country Stateside, that old chestnut — in 2014, but that's little reason to think she's easing off the gas this year.

In fact, the venerated guitarist is going all out, preceding her appearances at St Jerome's Laneway Festival from the end of this month with the eagerly received news that she will be releasing her debut studio full-length, Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit, on Friday, 20 March, an announcement heralded by the arrival of the album's lead single, Pedestrian At Best

The track received a pretty-big-deal premiering on BBC1, probably the world's fanciest radio station, and like the rest of the album was recorded during a 10-day stint at Melbourne's Head Gap Studios. The album stands as a natural convergence of the disparate ideas presented in 2013's The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas, and — as if she wasn't already on such a trajectory — is expected to be the kind of collection that sends burgeoning indie acts crashing through to greater recognition. Until that inevitably happens, though, you can whet your appetite by checking out the fresh goods below.

Courtney Barnett's Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit will be released via Milk! Records/Remote Control Records, and is available for preorder digitally via iTunes. If you're more the traditionalist type, head to Barnett's website to lay down your hard-earned cash for a Deluxe White Double Gatefold Vinyl, Single LP Regular Black Vinyl, or CD edition.
