Local rights still held by the band

More Airbourne More Airbourne

Victorian rock band Airbourne – one of Australia’s biggest rock exports of the past five years – have this week confirmed a worldwide deal with Spinefarm Records.

With the release of 2013’s Black Dog Barking, the band’s three-album deal with Warner-owned Roadrunner Records was up and the band have agreed to join Universal’s Spinefarm imprint. The three-album deal covers the world excluding Australia and New Zealand, and theMusic.com.au can confirm that the local rights are still up for discussion.

At Spinefarm they join a roster that includes Children Of Bodom, Killing Joke and dozens of other renowned metal and rock artists.

In a joint statement the band said, “We’re pumped up to have signed on the dotted line to the world's toughest and truest hard rock label, Spinefarm. We have worked with some of the guys on this team in the past, and we’re extremely confident about having each other's back in the trenches for many hard rockin' years to come.”

Jonas Nachsin, the worldwide General Manager of Spinefarm, has previously worked with the band during his time at Roadrunner – as have other members of the Spinefarm team.

“We are so proud to be the new global home for the amazing Airbourne!” he said. “They are a band who have thrilled audiences around the world with their insanely energetic live shows and wildly anthemic songs, and all of us at Spinefarm are thrilled to be part of their ensuing juggernaut.”

Although their presence in Australia has been sparse in recent years, Airbourne have been waving the flag of Aussie rock to an increasingly large audience overseas. Regulars of the European festival circuit they’ve torn apart stages at Wacken, Rock Am Rick, Sonisphere, Download, Hellfest, Greenfield and others while Black Dog Barking topped download charts around the world.

The band recently got the nod of approval from one of their main influences, AC/DC. They are currently writing a new album.
