'Wayne's World'-Inspired Pop-Up Bar Set To Open In Sydney

Exsqueeze me? Baking powder?

Three Sydney bartenders will be bringing a Wayne's World-inspired pop-up bar to the city from mid-next month.

Taking over both floors of Oxford Circus, the one-time site of the Gay Bar and Ruby Rabbit, Ben Blair, Reece Griffiths and Lee Potter Cavanagh's Whisky Jerx is set to make the leap from fantasy to real life from 18 February until 22 April, as a result of the trio's winning last year's annual Monkey Shoulder bartending competition, which provided them with the tools, capital and support needed to start their own pop-up.

As Australian Bartender reports, with the opportunity to bring their own temporary tipple space to the city, the lads drew their inspiration from renowned high-art cinema classic Wayne's World; while the top floor will be all cocktails and class (with a "top five" running theme — top five favourite spirits, whiskies, soft drinks, etc), the bottom floor of the bar set to be trussed up to feel like Wayne's basement (only that's not Wayne's basement; isn't that weird?).

"Essentially we're taking inspiration from the soda jerks from back in the day, that's where the name comes from," Cavanagh told Australian Bartender. "We all had similar interests growing up, you know, we all liked rock'n'roll, we were all in bands, so we wanted to reference that as well. The music is pretty much inspired by the Wayne's World era and our youths, so rock'n'roll, some punk — not this country/Americana worship."

Bonus points if the room is dotted with "If you're going to spew, spew into this" receptacles. Also, all transport to and from the bar should look something like this:

Party time. Excellent.
