The winners of the peer-voted competition will be unveiled in Sydney this March
The music industry's most prestigious peer-voted award, the APRA Song Of The Year, has had its 2015 shortlist revealed, with artists such as Chet Faker, Courtney Barnett and even AC/DC emerging as strong contenders for the title with multiple entries.
Faker appears on the shortlist three times — for Gold, Talk Is Cheap and 1998 — while Barnett's Anonymous Club and Pickles From The Jar help to make her a dual nominee, as are AC/DC for Play Ball and Rock Or Bust. Obvious contenders such as Sheppard's Geronimo, Hilltop Hoods' Cosby Sweater, Sia's Chandelier and Peking Duk's High, featuring Nicole Millar, all earn a nod, while slightly more left-field nods go to Augie March (A Dog Starved), Blue King Brown (All Nations), Kasey Chambers & Bernard Fanning (Bittersweet) and Russell Morris (Van Diemen's Land).
This year's shortlist also sees entries from Violent Soho (Saramona Said), Angus & Julia Stone (Heart Beats Slow), Dan Sultan (Kimberley Calling), The Peep Tempel (Carol), The Preatures (Somebody's Talking) and several other brightly shining local acts who won over hearts and ears with fresh goods last year.
The 2015 APRA Music Awards will be held at Sydney's Carriageworks on Tuesday, 24 March, once again hosted by irreverent RocKwiz co-creator Brian Nankervis. APRA AMCOS members have until 5pm on Thursday, 29 January, to submit their votes for the Song Of The Year Award — simply doing so puts you in the running to win a Gibson Les Paul Studio Guitar in silver pearl finish (valued at $3000), plus a double pass to the prizegiving ceremony at Carriageworks on the 24th.
