Let Mogwai Drill Right Through Your Brain With 'Teenage Exorcists'

The track comes from forthcoming EP 'Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1.'

More Mogwai More Mogwai

Scotland-born post-rock pioneers Mogwai have unveiled their newest music video, for similarly fresh single Teenage Exorcists, and it's nothing like anything we've seen from the band before.

Granted, the veteran instrumentalists have dabbled with vocals to varying degrees throughout their career — from vocoder-obscured lyrics during the Young Team/Happy Songs For Happy People years to the out-and-out, mournful ruminations of standout track Travel Is Dangerous, from 2006 LP Mr Beast— but never quite to the degree that they feature in the new cut, taken from the band's forthcoming EP, Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1.

As a result, strangely, the song feels less obviously like Mogwai than most of Mogwai's material; much of the dynamic and melodic nuances that would otherwise fill the usually wordless space are gone, replaced with a persistent driving chug-line that does eventually detour closer to the arenas in which one would usually find the Glaswegian guitar-rock lords before pulling back to the relative safety of the main refrain. It's not bad — it just feels a little... plain... considering what we know the band is capable of.
