The fourth film in the franchise arrives mid-next year

Following the release of a relatively pointless 15-second teaser earlier this week, Universal Pictures has unveiled the official trailer for the eagerly awaited fourth film in the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World.

Released (and set) 22 years after the original movie, Jurassic World picks up just long enough after the infamous incident on Isla Nublar for the world to have totally forgotten that a living-dinosaur theme park is a very bad idea; thus, the site of the doomed Jurassic Park is now the redeveloped, state-of-the-art, fully functional Jurassic World, replete with all the attractions and amenities the original never lasted long enough to see installed.

Naturally, it's all bound for disaster, as among all the tourists gawking at gallimimus stampedes (in a fairly obvious throwback to Jurassic Park) and prehistoric marine shows, overzealous lab coats breed the first man-made dino-hybrid, which, duh, gets loose and presumably starts eating and/or physically crushing everything in sight.

Nods to the original abound: there appear to be some useless kids in relatively central roles; hubris once more seems to be the catalyst for disaster; original cast member B.D. Wong returns to his role of JP geneticist Henry Wu, who will hopefully be the one dude reminding everyone this new park is simply asking for trouble; and man-of-the-moment Chris Pratt steps into the fray as game warden/velociraptor expert Owen, who comes off as kind of a more-capable pastiche of Sam Neill's Dr Alan Grant and Bob Peck's tragically underprepared hunter Robert Muldoon, and is seemingly is so chill with velociraptors that he can ride a motorcycle right next to them without them biting off his face like you just know JP's raptors would have.
