They'll be on the ballot on November 29!
Despite a few last-minute concerns that they wouldn't quite make the cut, The Basics Rock'n'Roll Party have successfully achieved party status for the forthcoming Victorian state election on November 29.
Basics member Kris Schroeder started the party with compatriots Wally de Backer and Tim Heath "as a last-ditch effort to inject some faith back into our failing democracy", and it was quick to gather the necessary 500 signatures to submit for registration, before some bumps in the road as officials struggled to verify some of the signees' details. However, with that drama behind them and registration assured, the band's political leanings are being worn openly on their sleeves, more so than usual of late, with the arrival of their sharply critical The Lucky Country EP, the title track of which is enjoying modest recognition (by The Basics' own admission) in the wake of its recent release.
And soon the rage of #TheLuckyCountry will be forgotten, as media do their best to pretend it doesn't exist.

Schroeder will also be speaking as part of a political panel at the forthcoming Face The Music conference during Melbourne Music Week mid-this month — as well as generally being vocal on the band's various social media channels — so you've plenty of opportunities to get abreast of where he and his office bearers stand in regard to the issues.

Victoria should move for independence from Australia - no need for Abbott and Co, we can run ourselves away from the Commonwealth & all.

Victoria's independence is no more ridiculous than the Aus Gov signing the #TPP & leaving itself open to being sued by multinat'l corporates
— The Basics (@the3basics) November 4, 2014
The #TPP effectively removes the power of State & Local Govt to create legislation independent of the Federal system, making them irrelevant
