More Bring Me The Horizon More Bring Me The Horizon

Sheffield-bred metalcore outfit Bring Me The Horizon have written a defensive, explanatory note after a new song of theirs, which made its debut as part of BBC Radio 1's recent re-scoring of the film Drive, was pilloried by fans.

Don't Look Down was written specifically for the BBC-driven project to totally re-envision the existing musical score for the 2011 Ryan Gosling crime thriller, but that fact seems to have been lost on a great number of Bring Me The Horizon's fans, who took to Twitter, SoundCloud and Facebook in droves to express their disappointment in the band's "new direction".

As a result, the band have seen fit to spell out the reasons for their sonic departure. "We appreciate the level of passion both good and bad for DLD," the band wrote via tweet-extender TwitLonger. "We are really proud of what we created, but at the same time, we understand peoples confusion and panic after hearing the track.

"We were approached by radio one to score a piece of music for a rescore of the movie Drive. Now if you've seen Drive i’m sure you will agree neither anything from our previous albums, nor drown would of [sic] fit very well with the vibe of that particular movie, so we decided to create a piece of music that did justice to the amazing scene we was given.

"We experiment, we change it up, we take risks because we don't want to stay the same and we want to breathe life into this lacklustre genre, and we want to keep you guessing whats coming next."

You can hear the track, which was created in collaboration with Orifice Vulgatron of UK hip-hop outfit Foreign Beggars, below. Who'd have thought a bunch of metalcore kids would rail against the incursion of rap into their apparently hallowed genre?

Kudos for the effort anyway, Bring Me The Horizon. Read their full statement below.

We experiment, we change it up, We take risks because we don't want to stay the same and we want to breathe life into this lacklustre genre, and we want to keep you guessing whats coming next. Big up Orifice Vulgatron of Foreign Beggars for collaborating on the track, And once again, if you can tune into BBC 3 tonight at 10 and watch the whole movie, its an amazing project, and we think we smashed our part, and hope you guys feel the same once you've seen it. Peace, BMTH
