This Group Is Way Too Proud To Be The 'First Band On Tinder'

Nashville-based rockers Phin have caused a minor stir with their latest strategy to be noticed — signing up, as a group, to dating app Tinder in an effort to publicise their music.

We can't be too cynical about it — hell, it's worked enough for these words to get written — especially since the Tennessee-bred outfit are far from the first musicians to be found on the app (Band Dudes On Tinder, anyone?). However, they're certainly the first group to do so as a unit, at least to our knowledge, and took it upon themselves to promote that fact on photo-sharing site Imgur.

As you can see in the screenshots below (via Imgur), they're not exactly using Tinder for its intended purpose, getting matched to users and then moving straight past the awkward pick-up lines and come-ons to earnestly plug their music.

The strategy has been alternatively lauded and condemned by commentors so far: "I feel like misusing a dating app, then bragging about it is a specific personality for your band I do not care for. But good luck," one wrote to the band.

"I like the strategy. Then again, I'm easily impressed," wrote another.

We'll leave it up to you to make your own call on whether this sort of thing is a perfectly legitimate marketing strategy, an imperfect but still legitimate marketing strategy, or just completely gauche. Either way, you might start seeing this kind of thing more often. Hopefully not, though.
