The rapper will make his Australian debut

Future Music Festival has scored a massive coup for 2015, landing hip hop star Drake as its headlining act.

This will be the first time the Canadian-born rapper will perform in Australia and follows on from the festival's recent trend of playing host to big name urban artists including Pharrell and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

FMF Director Brett Robinson spoke to theMusic.com.au about the announcement and how they couldn't deny that there was a keen interest from music fans to see another huge urban act on their bill.

"For us it was very, very clear that we had to go out and we had [to] look at going straight to the top, and [see if] we could get the king, and we feel that we have," Robinson said.

"It's pretty amazing that we've been able to secure Drake."

Drake will be joined by EDM kingpin Avicii and English alternative-electro legends The Prodigy as the headline acts for next year. Both artists have played FMF before and the rest of the program follows similar suit, with a mix of returning and debuting  acts confirmed.

Dubstep trio Nero, rap-rave faves Die Antwoord, mainstream-electro artist Example, American rapper 2 Chainz, internationally-famed DJ Afrojack, Dutch DJ sensation Martin Garrix and current radio faves Sigma and Kiesza are just some of the other artists that will perform across the country next March.

The festival has also comissioned their own world-class DJ stage for 2015, which has been created by the sought-after production designer James Klein. His background includes putting together the main stage at Miami's Ultra Music event and Robinson believes this ambitious step will help Future's position globally.

"We're going out all guns blazing to put ourselves on the worldwide map and when all of our artists like Avicii and Martin Garrix and Afrojack and all of those guys who are playing that stage post photos of that stage, the whole world will know that that's the Future Music stage," Robinson revealed.

Future '15 also promises more food and beverage stalls and importantly, toilets, plus more premium options such as their new Sunset Club and First Class Lounge experiences.
