U2 are not in that battle
The latest release in triple j’s Like A Version cover series is one of the albums in with a chance of the top spot on the charts this week, according to midweek figures.
Like A Version Ten – which features covers by Alex Turner, Chet Faker, Remi and Lorde – is one of three albums likely to challenge for the top spot, with Ed Sheeran’s X and the soundtrack to Frozen currently holding positions one and two on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Almost exactly one year ago Like A Version Nine debuted at number one, topping a particularly notable week for the public broadcaster.
The new duo You+Me, consisting of Dallas Green (aka City & Colour) and Pink (aka Alecia Moore), will also have a strong debut with their record Rose Ave. and could figure near the top with a strong end to the week.
The news isn’t as good for U2, who are almost certain to miss out on the number one spot in Australia for the first time in decades, as every one of their albums since Rattle & Hum in 1998 has topped the chart (that’s Auchtung Baby, Zooropa, Pop, All That You Can’t Leave Behind, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb and No Line On The Horizon).
Their album Songs Of Innocence should enjoy a top ten debut, but the controversial roll out through Apple’s iTunes appears to have hurt sales significantly.
Elsewhere on the albums chart The Delta Riggs’ Dipz Zebazios should be safe for a top 30 debut, behind Jessie J’s Sweet Talker, Yellowcard’s Lift A Sail, Hozier’s Hoziers and New Found Glory’s Resurrection.
A few existing records will receive a bump as well, with INXS’s The Very Best back into the top 25 region, Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz not far behind (thanks to her impending tour) and The Amity Affliction’s Let The Ocean Take Me back into the top 50 (thanks to tickets for their upcoming tour going on sale).
It’s been three consecutive weeks at the top for The Veronica’s You Ruin Me, but expect a change at the top this weekend if midweek figures hold true. Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud and Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass are both sniffing around, while Sam Smith’s I’m Not The Only One is charging from 16.
The new single from Canberra’s Peking Duk (featuring fellow capital city guests SAFIA) will be the highest debut, with Take Me Over aiming at a top 15 entry. The single follows their record-breaking High track. The new single from fellow Aussies Hilltop Hoods, Cosby Sweater will be around the 25 mark.
There’ll also be debuts from Enrique Iglesias featuring Sean Paul, Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona’s Bailando.
Avicii’s The Days and The Script’s Superheroes are amongst the existing tracks climbing well this week.
