"I’ve got daughters and I wouldn’t like four young boys around 19 or 20 driving around town singing ‘I want to fuck you like an animal’"
With BIGSOUND well and truly in full swing for 2014 one of the most talked about panels of the conference so far has been the focus on triple j.
Featuring Nick Findlay, Richard Kingsmill, Chris Scaddan, Meagan Loader and Dave Ruby Howe, the issue of censorship came up during the question and answer period when one audience member accused the station of playing songs that he felt might encourage rape.
“There was one song one day that was just smut,” he said. “And if you want to know what the smut was, the line was ‘I want to fuck you like an animal'.”
The track he’s referring to is Nine Inch Nails’ Closer, which station manager Scaddan described as a “classic”.

The audience member added, “I’ve got daughters and I wouldn’t like four young boys around 19 or 20 driving around town singing ‘I want to fuck you like an animal’, pick someone off the street and rape them.”
“I don’t think that’s really fair,” a shocked Scaddan replied.
While some of the triple j representatives visibly squirmed during the back-and-forth, composure ruled with Kingsmill eventually getting in the final comment: "There's still certain words we don't find appropriate."
