Our team tell you who you SHOULD be checking out this year
With around 140 acts performing at BIGSOUND Live, we'll help point you in the right direction with some of our fave acts performing over the course of the conference. Here's who each of The Music editors think you should check out:
HITS
These dirty rock reprobates have been a Brisbane secret for too long now; it’s getting tiresome and it's time to share. Their new album Hikikomori is one of the best Oz rock releases in recent memory and deserves to be worshipped further and wider (that means you).
Blank Realm
Blank Realm
At the risk of sounding parochial (screw that actually, I’m completely and proudly parochial), this is another amazing Brisbane band who deserve to have their name (and music) shouted (and played) from rooftops. In this case a stage (and speakers) will have to suffice but get amongst it anyway.
Nicholas Allbrook
Never fails to delight onstage in a band construct so will be fascinating to see how he charms in solo mode. The Freo Docker fanatic may have other things on his mind come September – here’s hoping that he’s as talented a multi-tasker as he is a muso.
Step-Panther
Cannot for the life of me work out their name, but love their slacker garage indie goodness. At times like BIGSOUND, you’ve gotta embrace the shambolic, and this mob bring the chaos like no other with top tunes to boot.
Bad//Dreems
Bad//Dreems
This Adelaide band take their cues from all over the shop and slap it together in a way that perhaps shouldn’t work, only it completely and utterly works and everything they spew forth is intriguing at worst with complete awesomeness par for the course. Too much fun!

This elfin creature is as mercurial as Bowie. Some people are so freakishly talented that you just know they were put on this earth to expand our minds and souls. Listen to his 100ks ‘Round Camel single and let Allbrook be your fave new guru.
REMI
REMI
If you love N’fa (which we do. BIG time), REMI’s bound to turn you on also. Effortless flow, innovative instrumentation – REMI’s take on hip hop is what Airwick wishes it does.
Marlon Williams
A kiwi legend who is totally unaware of how genetically blessed he is, dresses sharp and sings like a ye olde troubadour (think Glenn Campbell) with mad eye contact and performance ability.
Lunatics On Pogosticks
These guys are bound to bring the fun. And when you’re Less Than Sober, which I’m told most BIGSOUND attendees are, a good mosh’n’pogo is just what the doctor ordered. 2015’s DMA’s.
Banoffee
Banoffee
Her voice sounds almost as great as the pie tastes. Minimal beats and dreamy instrumentation. Katy Perry made candy coloured locks naff, but Banoffee owns any hue.
RUNNER-UP
Milwaukee Banks
When this EP landed on our desk, it was immediately put on high rotation. Completely fresh sounds these days? You better believe Milwaukee Banks will shock your ears like the first time you heard Original Pirate Material by The Streets.
The Love Junkies
The debut album from Perth grunge rockers The Love Junkies has been a long time coming. They've secured their spot in the WA scene as a force to be reckoned with, and BIGSOUND will mark the start of their quest to take over the rest of the country. There's few whose live energy matches that of The Love Junkies.
Peter Bibby
Peter Bibby
Originally from Perth, Peter Bibby relocated to Melbourne in 2012,where he honed in on his song writing to deliver an explosion of eclectic emotions that translates nicely to the stage. With a new record due out this year on Spinning Top, there are big things in the works for Bibby.
Kučka
Perth's quirky indie singer-songwriter Kučka scored triple j Unearthed's Feature Artist at the end of June and has been receiving some decent airplay with her latest single, Unconditional. Her live show is just as dreamy as the single promises.
The Bennies
They'll be bringing the party, which is excepted with a record called Party Party Partay. They've spent some time abroad this year, playing to massive crowds around China, which has no doubt solidified their live set.
Jeremy Neale
Jeremy Neale
Turn that frown upside down. The charismatic, turtle-neck wearing Jeremy Neale will deliver an overload of dance-worthy indie pop and will be on his home turf.
Little May
Little May
It's folk music, but with a hint of darkness.
L-FRESH The LION
Intelligent hip hop done well.
Meniscus
Epic post-rock (well, is there any other kind, really?) with added visual aspects should make for an emotional performance.
DD Dumbo
DD Dumbo
The troubadour has scored some choice support slots of late and only bigger and better things await.
Alison Wonderland
The DJ will guarantee a party time, excellent.
