Cult-like Detroit-bred troubadour Rodriguez has announced that he will be touring Australia this October and November, including his first show in Perth for 25 years.

The enigmatic musician and subject of 2012 Oscar-winning doco Searching For Sugar Man has been a long-time favourite of Aussies, who, along with (randomly) South Africans, have been well onto his blistering, enchanting brand of folk rock since well before he “disappeared” and anybody felt the need to search for him to begin with.

In fact, the Cold Fact (1969) and Coming From Reality (1971) album-maker first hit antipodean shores in the late 1970s, conducting his most renowned tour Down Under in 1981, when a young Peter Garrett and his cohorts in Midnight Oil came along for the ride.

Much has changed since then, though, with Rodriguez fading into decades-long obscurity before enjoying a global wave of resurgence on the heels of Searching For Sugar Man’s release that now sees him setting off to not only Australia and South Africa but Europe and around his home country, where they, almost unforgivably, totally forgot about him for several years.
