Aussie comedians, Sam Simmons and Steen Raskopoulos, up for awards at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

This year two Australian comedians are up for major awards at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Melbourne’s Sam Simmons has been nominated for Best Comedy Show for Death Of A Sails-Man and Sydney’s Steen Raskopoulos has been nominated for Best Newcomer for I’m Wearing Two Suits Because I Mean Business: A ONE-MAN SKETCH COMEDY SHOW at this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The festival is the largest arts festival in the world and takes place every August for three weeks. Every year many Australians make the pilgrimage over hoping to break into the lucrative UK and European comedy circuit. Last year Australian Matt Okine was nominated in the Best Newcomer category but the award went to John Kearns. The Best Comedy Show winner in 2013 was UK comedian Bridget Christie's A Bic For Her, which went on to become the top-selling comedy stand-up show at Soho Theatre, London ever.

The 2014 Edinburgh Comedy Award winners will be announced on Saturday 23 August.
