The rising Sydneysiders will jet to the US to start work on their debut LP soon
The wave is rising behind Sydney pop-rockers Little Sea, who today have been revealed as the latest signing to Universal Music Publishing as party to a global publishing deal, in the latest development to assert the band’s swiftly growing star.
The deal, which comes almost a month to the day after announcing their new arrangement with Luke Girgis and Matt Cannings’ Careless Management, will see the band rub labelmate shoulders with the likes of 360, Passenger, The Aston Shuffle, Wave Racer, Gang Of Youths, Horrorshow, Jessica Mauboy, The Living End, The Potbelleez, Jackie Onassis, Dead Letter Circus, Last Dinosaurs and several other esteemed bands and artists.
“It’s rare for a brand new band to build a level of momentum like this in such a short space of time,” UMP Australia’s director of A&R, Heath Johns, beamed about the signing. “Little Sea are young, focused and energetic and most importantly they write great songs. We are really pleased to have them on board and we are looking forward to helping them build their careers at home and abroad.”
The fledgling DIY darlings have amassed a dedicated following thanks to the work ethic and warmth that shines through in their history as buskers and their social media engagement, to the point that their self-funded, independently released debut EP Wake The Sun managed to step out atop the Australian iTunes charts upon debut. The band also managed to sell out their recent east-coast tour following gleefully received recent single The Lucky Ones.

"We are extremely excited to become a part of the Universal Music Publishing family,” the band said in a joint statement. “This incredible opportunity is an amazing next step in our young careers, and to be given this platform as songwriters is both motivating and highly rewarding. We are excited about our future!”
Little Sea are about to set off for their inaugural visit to the United States, where they plan on collaborating with UMPG’s international songwriting network to get on the right foot for production to commence on their debut full-length release.
Before that gets under way, though, they’ve a few more shows on the horizon at home and across the ditch – check the Gig Guide or The Music App for all the details.
