Victoria tips the scales
It’s been a solid year for traditional and contemporary Indigenous artists around the country, and this year’s National Indigenous Music Awards has seen Dan Sultan take out three awards with his new record and Jessica Mauboy win National Artist Of The Year for the second consecutive year.
Following a whirlwind headline tour with a slew of sold-out dates, Sultan took home National Album, Song and Cover Art Of The Year for Blackbird, with fellow Victorian and “unofficial Mayor of Shepparton” Briggs scoring the New talent Award, which tipped the scales in Victoria’s favour, seeing the state take out four of the seven national awards.
National Community Clip Of The Year was awarded to Desert Sevenz from the remote NT community of Ampilatwatja for Fly Back Home.
And National Film Clip Of The Year went to North East Arnhem Land band East Journey, who are in the midst of prepping for a tour with Yothu Yindi next year.
