Spookyland Sign With US Label, Announce EP Tour + BIGSOUND Spot

The Sydney-based up-and-comers will be on the road from next week

Sydney-bred luminaries Spookyland, a live band focused on the compositions and recordings of central member Marcus Gordon, have been revealed as the newest signing to renowned American record label Canvasback — the first Aussie act to do so.

Canvasback was founded by Steve Ralbovsky — the man responsible for singing The Strokes, Kings Of Leon, My Morning Jacket and Soundgarden — and currently boasts label space for the likes of Grouplove, Alt-J and The Orwells, putting Spookyland in damn good company indeed when recent EP Rock And Roll Weakling drops in the States this September via the Canvasclub imprint.

The signing comes in the aftermath of breakthrough single The Silly Fucking Thing, which caught international attention upon its release and paved the way for the Rock And Roll Weakling EP (and its title track) to stroll its way onto airwave playlists around the country.

The group has immediately backed up the news of their new deal by confirming a national tour in support Rock And Roll Weakling, as well as appearances at the forthcoming BIGSOUND conference/showcase and their debut showing in the US, at NYC festival CMJ later in the year.

Spookyland’s Rock And Roll Weakling tour kicks off at Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club next Thursday, August 14, where they’ll join hard-working contemporaries Gang Of Youths, and roll through Sydney (a few times), Adelaide, Brisbane (there’s that BIGSOUND showing), and Melbourne (again), before wrapping up at home once more, closing the tour at Goodgod Small Club on Friday, September 19.
