The fledgling femme-fronted US metal act are the third official act to join the list
Los Angeles-bred metal quintet Butcher Babies have been revealed as the third act on-board the Soundwave Festival 2015 line-up, after Japanese metalcore outfit coldrain yesterday and US pop-punk heroes Patent Pending earlier today.
Forming in 2010 around dual frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey, and taking backing instrumentation from bassist Jason Klein, guitarist Henry Flury and drummer Chris Warner — the band self-released their first EP in May 2012. It wasn't long before they went on to sign a worldwide deal with Century Media Records, in November that year, itself resulting in their debut full-length, Goliath, in July 2013.
The inaugural effort did a good job of asserting the band's presence — it spawned a handful of singles in the form of tracks such as Magnolia Blvd and I Smell A Massacre — and charted in the Billboard top 200 upon its release, so while they may be reeeelatively little-known here, they've got the chops to warrant their spot on the Soundwave list.
In their relatively short lifespan, the band's horror punk-meets-straight-up-face-melting aesthetic has gone a great distance towards embedding them as one of the most distinct acts getting around, and well worth checking out when they fly in next year.
