Gerard Way's 'Hesitant Alien' will drop next month

The former vocalist of mid-2000s “emo” (super-loose use of the term) icons My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way, has announced that he will release his debut solo full-length record via Warner Bros Records next month.

Hitting shelves on September 26, the album, Hesitant Alien, will be\ preceded with an early taste of Way’s one-man work in the form of brand-new single No Shows, due for release later this month.

““I wanted to make the small things sound big,” Way said of the album, which was created with assistance from veteran producer Doug McKean and mixed by Tchad Blake (Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys).

“My intention was to make 100 per cent uncompromised art, using the currently least-radio-friendly instrument, the guitar. I knew there would be lots of fuzz pedals. I knew I would play Fender instruments. I knew I would look at who my guitar heroes were in art school, Mary Timony and Carrie Brownstein, and I drew a lot of influence from shoe-gaze and Britpop. I want the record to sonically galvanise people.”

It’s a brave new era for the former flag-bearer of black threads, who will get his post-MCR, post-graphic novelist solo career off the ground with a high-profile appearance at this month’s Reading and Leeds festivals in England.

In the interim, a bit of vintage Way, perhaps?
