Biggest debut of the year
Sydney pop punk outfit 5 Seconds Of Summer will debut at number one on the American Billboard charts this week with their self-titled release thanks to sales of over 253,000 copies.
The sales figures eclipse the 143,000 copies their EP She Looks So Perfect scanned in April when it debuted at #2 on the chart. They are the highest sales for a new artist debut in 2014 and the biggest debut ever by an Australian artist since SoundScan began keeping records in 1991.
The album was also a number one in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Italy, Holland and Mexico (it reached number two in the UK, where they’ve had another #1 anyway) and has sold over 1.5 million copies around the world.
They’ve been placed on the current One Direction worldwide tour and arena shows and their Australian tour in Sydney and Melbourne sold out within half an hour.

Australia’s biggest band at the moment have also announced their Amnesia EP will be released Friday 5 September.
Elsewhere in the US Sia will enter the top ten for the first time as a lead artist with Chandelier moving from 11 to nine, which was largely thanks to an 18 percent jump on radio play.
