Three of 'em. Count 'em. Three

More The War On Drugs More The War On Drugs

Philadelphia-bred Americana/indie rock outfit The War On Drugs have considerably increased Aussie fans’ chances at catching them while they’re here for the Meredith Music Festival with the announcement today of a handful east-coast sideshows in December.

The band’s tour will commence in Brisbane, at the Zoo, on Wednesday, December 10, before they grace The Hi-Fi’s stage in Melbourne on December 11 and wrap things up in Sydney on December 13 at the Metro – presumably slotting in their appearance at Meredith (December 12-14) between.

The War On Drugs released their third full-length album, Lost In The Dream, via Inertia back in March, and sees the band well and truly come into their own as founding member Adam Granduciel steps out of the shadow of his long-reaching collaborative history with ex-member Kurt Vile to earn the respect as a musician and songwriter that he deserves.

Which is, of course, not to discount the efforts of his bandmates; the entire outfit has come along in leaps and bounds since their 2008 debut LP Wagonwheel Blues — and if you want to know what we're talking about, or even if you already know but just feel like, hey, some The War On Drugs could be good right now, check out the supremely entertaining clip for recent single Red Eyes below:

Australians are no stranger to The War On Drugs, either; the band has previously made a handful of festival-centric trips, including Harvest 2012, and Falls and Southbound 2013/14, and have always taken the time out to spread the love in the form of sideshow action – two of which in Melbourne they have sold right out.

If that’s any indication of what’s in store this time around, you’ll want to be quick on the trigger with tickets – they’re available via Handsome Tours, or see the Gig Guide or The Music App for more information on either the sideshows or Meredith itself.
